You Are Being Formed Daily. The Questions Is: By What?

We become like what we give our attention to.
This is why daily prayer matters.

Recently, my small group has been doing the course 'Practicing the Way' and I was really struck by this line in the book...

'We don’t become people of prayer by accident.'

Ooooof. Isn't this just so true. We’re formed by what we practice and that means the habits and rhythms we choose each day shape the type of person we become, whether we like to admit it or not.

Stop for a moment and think. We live in a world that is constantly shaping us: our habits, our attention, our desires…and how are those things drawing us to or away from our Creator?

Forming daily rhythms of prayer can become a quiet resistance to the noise of the world. Choosing to slow down, to be with God andfill our minds so we are formed by His way instead of the way of the world.

When we intentionally set out this time each day we can be formed into:
People of peace in a culture of hurry.
People of surrender in a culture of control.
People of presence in a culture of distraction.

Daily prayer might feel small, but remember, we become like what we give our attention to. So return, each day, to that secret place.

Not to perform, but to be formed by Him.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2
